Andrew Wittman, PhD has been teaching Mental Toughness and Critical Thinking for over 25 years.  Andrew is a United States Marine Corps infantry combat veteran and a former police officer and federal agent. As a security contractor for the State Department, Andrew taught high-threat diplomatic security to former Navy SEALS, Rangers, and Special Forces.

Have you ever heard someone say, “I don’t know where that came from, I’m normally not like that,” as they just finished swearing and raising their fist at a driver who just cut them off?  If you want to see someone’s character, watch them under pressure.  Understandably, it’s typically fairly easy for us to manage our response to a situation when it doesn’t involve stress.  So the question then becomes, can we learn to manage our future stress before the crisis arises?

This is not only the conversation I have today with Dr. Andrew Wittman, but it is the entire premise behind his company, Get Warrior Tough.  He works with everyone from stay at home moms to CEO’s of large corporations, to help them develop the skills needed for critical thinking, especially when under pressure.  Studies have shown that under stress, we only are able to utilize roughly 20 percent of the options we actually have available in that moment.  So if we could literally train ourselves on how to access that other 80 percent, wouldn’t it stand to reason that we would make a lot better decisions more of the time?  Especially at the times when those decisions really matter… when they are critical.  This is why you want to listen in to this episode!

Best Advice:  Suspend your disbelief for two minutes, and ask how would I do this?

The one thing you know to be true:  Forrest Gump stuff, find a proocess that works and follow the process without question.
