How did you get to the point of truly loving your life so deeply?
I’ve never known anything but love. I was only expected to live to age 7. I have a rare form of muscular dystrophy, and so this is all I’ve known. I have always known we are all connected. It has always been who I am to want to help others and take away their pain, in any way possible.
What do people do if they don’t know what greatness feels like, so they don’t know that things could ever be better?
Become present. Find stillness. This quiet calmness, brings you a state of relaxation and peace. One way is through meditation. If that’s too much to consider, just focus on your breath. Allow yourself to relish in the stillness. Become open and aware. Focus on your awareness of your senses, your surroundings. The more you do that intentionally, you become more present. The four pillars are: being – Open, Receptive , Aware, and having Appreciation/Gratitude.
What were you thinking right before you had to go through huge pain for the chance that it may be better on the other side?
I braced myself. There is no guarantee. And I don’t believe in sacrifice, I believe in willing exchanges. What are we willing to exchange? What could happen? You get a choice of what you want in the next moment. Consider that in the next moment it could be far better than the one you have right.
Best Piece of Advice?
Start by looking at other people and allow yourself to feel a softness for them. Allow that compassion to turn into love for them. Then ask yourself how can I make this person’s life better right now? Even a smile with a soft heart can make a tremendous difference.
What do you believe to be true?
Love is the unifying connection between all souls.
